Happy Republic Day iXiGOers !

The Indian TV anthem "Mile Sur Mera Tumhara" that Doordarshan gave us is back again today to celebrate the New India. It has been transformed into 'Phir Mile Sur' featuring Abhishek and Aishwarya Bachchan along with Big-B, the only actor from the original version.

The re-created version celebrates all the regional cultural and linguistic richness of India and has megastar Amitabh Bachchan lending his deep baritone in the backdrop of the Taj Mahal Hotel and Gateway of India in Mumbai alongwith Oscar winner A R Rahman playing the fingerboard in Chennai. It also features Shahrukh Khan, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and his two sons, Tabla-Maestro Zakir Hussain, Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Shaan, Shankar Mahadevan, Louis Banks & other great artistes & luminaries!

A masterpiece worth watching without further ado:

The original song which opened with the lines sung by Pt Bhimsen Joshi was premièred on Doordarshan on August 15, 1988. You can see it here:

  1. Why is the Sindhi portion of mile sur mera tumhara deleted in this new version, are sindhis not part of India and sindhi language a Indian language, this song has been sung in Hindi so many times by so many people i am sure the director could have made some room for sindhi language as well. this is discrimination.
